Spanish vargueno

A vargueno (also called bargueno) is a traditional Spanish piece of furniture from the Renaissance. It is a writing cabinet, often with a fold down front that serves as a writing surface. Inside there are often many small drawers and compartments. This example dates from circa 1700.

In exceptionally beautiful and pure condition. Almost entirely original, with only a few small wood restorations here and there. Very beautiful original back panel. Made of solid walnut with a beautiful patina and colour. The piece stands on a custom made metal base from later (mid 20th century).
