Venetian gondola chair

A true museum piece of high quality. An 18th century Venetian gondola chair with original polychrome paint.

As is still the case, the gondola was used in Venice for centuries as a daily means of transport. In the 18th century the elite used it, having themselves taken to their destination. This type of chair was intended for an important person, who could place his or her valuables in the compartment under the seat during the trip.

Beautiful painting on the back and sides, including angels, geese and flowers. Upholstered in the original leather, which we have left as is for the sake of originality, but we could also have it reupholstered in leather or try to find a suitable address for leather restoration. Finished all round with decorative nails.
