Set of four malachite obelisks

A unique find: we have not come across such a beautiful set of obelisks before, and certainly not a set of four. Probably Russian, in malachite veneer, dating from the late 20th century. All in perfect condition. We found this set in the south of France.

Malachite is a mineral used as a gemstone. The Greeks and Romans already knew it, and the powdered mineral was used as make-up and as a pigment for paint. It was said to protect children from sorcery and witchcraft, and in antiquity it was thought to cure eye complaints. In the 16th century it was used in Central Europe to promote the growth of children and to relieve pain.
