Pair of framed Aubusson tapestries

A set of two framed Aubusson tapestries from France, 18th century. With a beautiful mountain landscape depicted: trees, plants, birds, water and more.

An 18th century Aubusson tapestry is a luxurious, hand woven wall or floor tapestry from the French town of Aubusson, famous for its tapestry workshops since the 17th century. These tapestries were often made for palaces and aristocratic homes and are characterised by fine detailing, pastel coloured scenes and classical or floral motifs such as mythological scenes, flowers, wreaths and cartouches. They reflect the elegant style of the rococo and neoclassical periods. Aubusson tapestries were a sign of status and refined taste.
