Malachite freeform on stand

An exceptional specimen of malachite freeform on a stand. Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral, often found in nature together with the related azurite.

Malachite was worked as a gemstone early on. In ancient Egypt cameos, amulets and ornaments were made from it. The Greeks and Romans of classical antiquity also knew malachite. The powdered mineral was used as make-up and as a pigment for paint.
