Large French tapestry

A large example of a French 18th century tapestry. In the Netherlands these are often called Gobelins, but that is not a collective name for all antique tapestries. Gobelin was just one very well known producer of tapestries. Our example comes from France and dates from the 18th century.

It shows a large exotic chateau garden with many trees and plants, with a chateau visible in the background. In good condition and the colours are still very bright. Beautiful shades of blue, green, yellow and gold.

Signs of use in keeping with its age and as we are used to with tapestries of this age. In several places some small holes from centuries of hanging and an old candle burn mark.
