German botanical flower model, c. 1900
Enlarged teaching model of a flower in papier-mâché and wax, on a wooden base. The five petals, sepals, stamens and pistils are rendered with great accuracy. On the base is an original label, "Osterloh model 21".
This type of model was made for use in botanical education and is inextricably linked to the German tradition of scientific teaching models from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
