Hand carved column from an altar

An 18th century French hand carved column. A fantastic large fragment of a column that belonged to an altar. The piece was rescued from a burnt out church in the middle of France, as can be seen on the back.

The column has beautiful hand carved decoration including leaves, bunches of grapes and birds.
