A freestanding wooden coat rack in a faux bamboo style, presumably made around 1970.
The coat rack features a tall, turned central post with several moulded rings that mimic the natural knots of bamboo. At the top are several turned wooden hanging arms, arranged at varying heights.
The whole piece rests on a decorative base with four curved legs and turned joints. The wood has a warm brown finish with a natural patina and some signs of wear.
Faux bamboo furniture became popular in the 19th century as a European alternative to furniture made from real bamboo, partly due to the growing interest in Asian art and design.
