English convex mirror from the Regency period, made around 1820.
The round, gilded wooden frame features a black moulded inner edge and is crowned by a carved eagle with outstretched wings. At the bottom is an ornament of acanthus leaves and hanging leaf motifs.
The mirror has two elegantly turned, detachable candlesticks and retains its original convex mirror pane, with characteristic weathering of the reflection. Such convex mirrors were used in the early 19th century to diffuse light and reflections throughout a room.
