Black Forest owl inkwell

One of our favourites from the latest buying trips. A Black Forest inkwell in the shape of an owl, carved from linden wood. On the back is an inscription in Flemish: "Met dank aan de heer en mevrouw J.U. Kalken, Göttingerkamp, 1918, Jules Martens".

The Göttingen prisoner of war camp was established in September 1914 in the Prussian province of Brunswick and housed tens of thousands of French, British, Belgian and Russian prisoners. Very good condition, the glass pot is missing.

Dimensions: 31 W x 19.5 D x 12 H cm
