Plaster model, probably a chapel fragment
Special 19th century plaster model. We strongly suspect that it is a scale model of a fragment of a chapel. Made of plaster and very richly decorated. Two putti at the top symbolise peace.
Below the medallion is a Bacchic mascaron, a decorative relief face inspired by Bacchus or a Satyr, with cornucopia elements. Centrally on the front and back is a medallion of Medusa in gilt bronze. Medusa is known from Greek mythology: her hair consisted of snakes and everyone who looked at her turned to stone.
Probably from France, 19th century.
