A distinctive mahogany sculpture stand from the first half of the 20th century, circa 1920–1940.
The stand rests on three gracefully curved legs and features a round worktop that is height-adjustable. The mechanism consists of a central wooden upright with a toothed rack and a metal locking mechanism. Beneath the worktop is a second round shelf.
Such stands were used in studios by sculptors and artists to position sculptures at the desired working height whilst they were being created.
