Solid oak capitals (set of 2) from the late 18th century, executed in a richly decorated classical style.
The capital displays influences from both the Ionic and Corinthian orders, featuring large volutes, floral rosettes and stylised acanthus leaves. At the centre is a floral motif, surrounded by symmetrically arranged carvings.
The piece is covered in an old, cream-coloured paint finish with visible signs of wear and areas where the wood is exposed. It was originally thought to be part of an architectural column or pilaster.
This is a set of two identical capitals.
