One kitten attentively licks a small plate clean, while the other two watch fascinated and play with a colourful little ball. The soft fur textures, the lively posture of the animals and the subtle fall of light show the craftsmanship for which Brunel de Neuville is known. The background with stone wall and steps gives the scene a warm, homely atmosphere.

Oil on panel, in a richly decorated gilt frame that suits the character of the work and the period.
